Jordi Molina was born in Blanes in 1962, and since he was so young
(7 years old) he became immersed in music in the Banda i Cobla of
Sta. Maria School in Blanes, under the direction of father Joaquim
Alqueza. He played there from 1969 to 1980 and then traveled to Yugoslavia,
Germany, Israel, Jordania, Wales, France, Italy, Canary Islands, Madrid,
Valencia and all Catalonia.
He
has taken music and harmony studies at the Liceu de Girona and at
the municipal conservatory of Barcelona. He has also taken clarinet
studies with Andreu Cusidó and Juli Panella; tenora studies
with Ricard Viladesau; and the furthering of harmony with Angels
Alabert at the Taller de Músics in Barcelona.
He
has taken part in the brass band-orchestras La Principal of Barcelona
(from 1981), Els Montgrins (from 1983, received the Creu de Sant
Jordi Award of the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1984 and the National
Music Award in 1993), Maravella (since 1996, received the award
Creu de Sant Jordi of the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1997). He
has also done arrangements and tasks on music production in TV3,
he has collaborated with Santi Arisa in the creation of the musical
fusion called Sardanova and has been one of the promoters
of the Cobla de Cambra de Catalunya.
As
a composer, he has done near to thirty sardanas, dances at the IXth
centurys style, several works for brass bands, chamber works
for different tenora groups, a cantata, and he usually writes arrangements
for diverse bands and solists.
He
has been awarded with the Award to the interpretative singularity
of the O.B.P. (2000), first award Ramón Serrat for young
composers (1992) and the second award in the Ceret-Banyoles contest
of sardanas composition (1999).
He
has collaborated with Mô del Mar Bonet, Manel Camp, Lluís
Vidal trio, Companyia Elèctrica Dharma, Banda Municipal de
Barcelona.
His
recordings with the tenora, through the different bands he has played
on are more than fifty. These records includes sardanas, themes
for brass band...and you can even find especiality themes written
specifically for that, as those ones composing the CD Mosaic,
in duet with the pianist Ramón Escalé.
