araca

Founded in Barcelona, Araca is a band composed by four argentinian and catalan musicians.
With a deep musical education and a large professional experience, including from ancient music to jazz, they propose us an actual view of tango and argentinian folklore.
Their repertory consist of versions by author’s compositions like Astor Piazzolla and of original themes by the quartet members.

They have played in the most important festivals in Spain.

In 1996, they took part in the record of the Orchestra de Cambra Teatre Lliure, managed by the record company Armonia Mundi. This record is dedicated to Astor Piazzolla’s music, and is arranged by Lluís Vidal.

marcelo mercadante  

Born in Buenos Aires. He took bandoneon studies with Rodolfo Mederos, Daniel Binelli ans Nestor Marconi. He also studied harmony and counterpoint with R.Mederos, W.Martillorca, Ll.Vergés and A.Civilotti.
In Buenos Aires he played in the next bands: Bandoneon Quartet of Daniel Binelli, Quartet of Lluís Borda, Orchestra of the Popular Music School and The Octet The Shadow among others. The last one brought him to win the Young Art Bienal in Buenos Aires in 1992. The same year, he travelled to Sevilla with the Argentinian Pavillion of the Expo’92.
He settled in Barcelona where he started to develope an intense concert activity all around Spain and Europe.
In 1994 he founded the Argentinian Tango Trio with whom two records were published and they took part in the 2nd and 3rd edition of the Tango Festival of Sitges, the Grec Festival of Barcelona in 1995 and 1996, Buskers Festival of Ferrara (Italy) and Buskers Festival of Neuchatel (Switzerland), and at the City Theatre of Tunisia.
In 1997 he appeared as a solist with the Orquestra Nacional de Cambra of Andorra, playing Cinco Sensaciones de Tango (Five Tango sensations), original by Astor Piazzolla.
Recently he has carried out some tours with the argentinian singer Amelita Baltar, who was Astor Piazzolla’s singer.

 

 

pere bardagí  

Born in Barcelona, he started his musical studies when he was sixteen years old at the Conservatori Superior Munipal de Música.
He is first violin of the Orquestra de Cambra Teatre Lliure from its beginning, and he has taken part on the most important festivals in Spain and Europe.
He has been professor in the Escola de Música of Barcelona, in the Conservatori of Badalona and in the Jove Orquestra Simfònica de Catalunya.
His interest for any kind of music has brought him to play from barroc violin with ancient music bands to elecric violin with jazz and rock bands.
He has published six records with the record company Harmonia Mundi and has also appeared in many radio and TV programmes.

 

horacio fumero

Born in Santa Fe (Agentina). He started his musical studies at the Municipal Conservatory ‘Manuel de Falla’ in Buenos Aires and continued them at High Music Conservatory in Geneve. From 1982 and until he died, he played in Tete Montoliu trio, carrying out international tours and playing in the most important festivals.Many records were published.

He has collaborated with musics like Freddie Hubbard, Gato Barbieri, Johnny Griffin, Woody Shaw, Danilo Pérez, David Sánchez, Horace Parlan... He has recorded with Gato Barbieri, Charly Mariano, Frank Strazeri, Peter Kinganta Fe (Argentina).

 

lluís vidal

Born in Barcelona, where he studies music at the City Conservatoire.

He has founded the Orquestra de Cambra Teatre Lliure, the jazz groups Catalònia (1977), Onix (1983), Ictus (1987) and his own trio, as well as tangos group Araca (1995)..

He has recorded numerous programs for radio and T.V. and has performed at the most important festivals in Spain, Portugal, France, England, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Bulgaria, Israel, U.S.A. , China and Argentine. He has collaborated with jazz musicians, as Dave Liebman, John Abercrombie, Kenny Wheeler, amongst others, with the Belgian Radio and T.V. big-band, with the Simphony Orchestra Ciudad de Granada, with the Beethoven Academie of Belgium, with the National Chamber Orchestra of Andorra, and with de Chamber Orchestra Andrés Segovia.

As a composer, he has written music for movies ( La ràbia, Bufons i Reis) and for theatre (Savannah Bay, La Tempestad, Zowie), as well as numerous pieces for big band, orchestra, solo artists and several different ensembles, plus all the material he place on stage preformances, either with the trio or as a solo pianist.
He has been teaching at the AMMJ at the Taller de Músics of Barcelona (being musical director for three years) and actually at the ESMUC.
He has done one record with the group Catalònia, two with Onix, one with Ictus, five with his own trio, one at piano solo, and several with the Orquestra de Cambra Teatre Lliure.
He has been awarded for many diferent composition prizes, the Music Nacional Award by the Generalitat de Catalunya, and the award by the Jazz Musicians Association of Catalonia.

Member of the directing staff of the Orquestra de Cambra Teatre Lliure, being nowadays the artistic director.
